Garden
of Knowledge 2007
2007
The Ojai Education
Foundation sponsored its 2nd annual signature fundraising event called
The Garden of Knowledge, a beautiful fall evening of gourmet food, art, music and literature in
a bucolic Ojai setting. Dinner and entertainment took place at the home of
architect Marc Whitman, who designed the uniquely appointed home around an
ancient oak tree, with vantages of boulder-strewn pools of the adjacent Santa
Ana Creek. The Garden of
Knowledge
featured a silent auction of works by nationally known local artists, book
signings by Ojai’s own authors, a world-class jazz ensemble (Jim Calire Trio), and delectable
cuisine based on seasonally fresh, local foods. A formal short program included presentation of the OEF Education Hero of the Year award
to Cathy Maynard, and a "Magic of Science"
presentation by science teacher Jim Bailey.

OJAI EDUCATION
FOUNDATION
The Ojai Education Foundation (OEF) is a community-based, nonprofit organization
that promotes excellence in public education by building community support and
providing resources to our schools. Since 1993 the OEF has been working to
‘create a vibrant, rich, inspiring educational experience for the children of
Ojai.’ The Ojai Unified School District has developed some exceptional
programs, such as its nationally recognized music department. Due to declining
enrollment and insufficient funding, gaps are increasing in the OUSD’s ability
to provide the resources to match these successes in other departments. The OEF
is committed to working with the community and individuals and organizations
that believe in the importance of education funding to bridge these
deficiencies. Our short-term objective is to help the OUSD deliver the highest
level of science education to its students.
